CloudwatcherUno chats with Alessia about her EP “Sugar”. We get together after Alessia was recovering from surgery to help her breathe! The EP came about when Alessia was stuck in her native Switzerland and was based on her experiences of falling in and out of love. Even if something bad happens in life Alessia tries to take these happy moments and puts them into her songs.
“Sugar” by Alessia
One of the ways that Alessia produces music is when she plays on piano and is able to freestyle and use less lyrics and emphasise the chords of her music. “Sugar” the track was born in 2020 when other countries were in lockdown, Switzerland was not. The song is inspired by eighties disco pop funk music. The melody was born first and then the lyrics came afterwards for this track.
Alessia has collaborated with songwriters and producers across the world to show her vision of music . Her music is inspired by the music of Kylie Minogue, Abba and bubble gum pop.
Alessia was touring in summer 2021 even when all the naysayers were saying it cant be done. Alessia proved them all wrong. Alessia goals are to travel around the world making music, getting that adrenaline kick of performing in front of a live audience. She loves it when the audience sings back her lyrics to her when she is on stage. Alessia is planning to play at festivals and making her name as the rising star of music.

Megan O’Neill is the stuff of dreams, Irish fairy tales and everything in between. A singer songwriter who manages to capture the essence of that emerald isle in words and melodies so enchanting that you will come away bewitched by her songs. Just listen to tracks ‘Ireland‘, ‘Time in a Bottle‘ and ‘Winter Sun‘ from her latest album ‘Getting Uncomfortable with Uncertainty‘.
‘Ireland‘ by Megan O’Neill
We talk about touring across Germany and the upcoming shows across Ireland and the United Kingdom. Megan expresses how thrilled she is getting into the swing of things and playing in front of a live audience again. The title of the album relates to life in general and not specifically pandemic related. The process of recording and planning this album was dealing with the only constant in life is change.
Megan made her decision to move back to Ireland after living in America and London. A move that has been the right one for her emotionally and musically. Having two albums and various EPs to her name Megan is now concentrating on releasing more singles as a way of showcasing her singer songwriting talents, with a view to possibly make an album out of them.
A huge milestone for Megan was getting her song ‘Time in a Bottle‘ picked up for Netflix’s ‘Firefly Lane‘. Writing for different artists and genres is something that Megan has grown into and loves exploring the voice of another artist. Having patience is one of the key attributes that Megan believes all artists should have when starting a career in the arts and to enjoy the dream.
‘Time in a Bottle‘ by Megan O’Niell
Supporting her from the beginning of her career has been her family who she credits for supporting her throughout her musical journey. Megan’s musical heroes are Joni Mitchell, Carol King, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel and Tim Crotchet, Irish Folk Music which she credits to her mother’s musical taste. Currently Megan’s listening to 1975, Holly Humberstone, Taylor Swift and Charli Adams, all of which satisfies her pop cravings!
I’m looking forward to seeing Megan on tour. Click below to hear the podcast from CloudwatcherUno with Megan O’Neill. Also streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Podcast Addict or wherever you listen to your podcasts.
Allison Leah is a folk-pop singer originally from New York but now based in Nashville, Tennessee. 2020 may not have gone as planned but Allison wanted to carry on with her plans and to continue with her new music projects after her ‘Fly Home’ EP.
‘Coffee Cup’ by Allison Leah
In this podcast host CloudwatcherUno talks with Allison on being there every step of the way in the production of her new music and how she has grown as a songwriter. Concentrating on more mature stories and evolving into a more true pop sound. There’s more fusion of genres and as an independent artist Allison can experiment with what she wants to release. We get to hear ‘Colorado’ and ‘We Can Still Sing’.
Originally from New York, Allison Leah has moved to Nashville to continue her journey in music.
Last Spring was to be Allison’s biggest tour starting off in Kentucky but then the pandemic arrived and it was all cancelled. This lead to Allison being in lockdown with her family but also resulted in her writing and releasing her pandemic anthem ‘We Can Still Sing’ a response to what she was seeing from Italy and the lockdown that was happening there. The song was a family affair with Allison getting her siblings joining to do background vocals, Allison herself did all of the arrangement herself and her sound engineer father mixing the whole track. It’s a song for the world and has helped many people across the globe deal with quarantine.
‘We Can Still Sing’ by Allison Leah
Growing up in a musical household let Allison explore her fascination with music especially musical theatre. Allison really enjoyed playing piano and loved singing along to the radio and on stage and was influenced a lot by the music around here which was classic rock and jam bands and listening to artists such as John Mayer, Rachael Yamagata and Trevor Hall. Allison’s first break as a singer was singing in front of the school aged just 5, from there she was hooked on the adrenalin in performing for an audience.
Make sure to add Allison’s music to your daily playlist.
“IT’S THE GREATEST FEELING IN THE WORLD WHEN FANS LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC”
For Allison it’s the joy of singing and performing that has led her to sing at the Blue Bird Music Cafe in Nashville, The Bitter End in New York, Sofar Sounds and House Shows. Allison’s plans for the future will be to release new music in the genres that speak to her from the heart and to her fans. This year is one of opportunity and being able to showcase her beautiful voice on her new records.

Tareq. Remember his name it’s going to be all over the cosmos. A true musical genius. His latest album “Prints” was released on 18th July 2020 and it showcases Tareq’s unique musical gifts, sounds and production. A masterpiece of harmonies, orchestral notes, collaborations and birdsong. All conceived in the mind of an artist who has produced the most mature, emotional, raw and honest album in his career.
In this podcast we talk about producing an album from demos to the finished article in lockdown and how artists such as Tareq have had to adapt to this new reality and have come out the other side by producing music that is genuinely thrilling and hooks it’s audience with it’s beats and bass lines.
We get to hear the title single ‘Upside Down’ and his last single ‘One’ ~ remixed by Silverhook. Tareq talks about how the ideas for this song and others that have been built on the foundation of lyrics that are metaphors for the human condition. Love, life, bittersweet optimism and upbeat instrumentals combine to produce beautifully crafted songs.

I was lucky enough to listen to the album before general release and I quickly became obsessed with all the tracks. From the opening ‘Vertigo’s Effect’ which is a true cinematic soundtrack and feels like the marriage of ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘Escape From New York’ through to his collaborations with artists such as Sarah P on Cross Bones, Natasha Bofiliou on ‘Lift Me Up’ and Sam Rag Da on ‘Five More Minutes’ this is an artist at the top of his game and producing music that is equal parts lightness and darkness.

The album strives for a balance between sadness and happiness in each track. There are many tracks that are my favourite on this album. One especially is ‘OK’ with lines such as ‘How could I forget your face when you have so many?’ The craft of songwriting is alive and well in this digital age.

Four tracks on the album were written during lockdown and Tareq produced all of it within a month. The result is a an album that you will be playing over and over again. Hypnotic songs like ‘Road To Somewhere’ and ‘No Time Land’ and will have permeated your consciousness and you’ll need to hear to get another fix of those vibrant melodies and haunting lyrics.
