CloudwatcherUno Podcast S10 Ep 2 ~ Amanda Pascali

Amanda Pascali talks with CloudwatcherUno from Palermo, Sicily where she is currently engaged on a Fulbright Scholarship fellowship to translate and revitalise Sicilian folk music. Born in Queens, New York, Pascali’s family moved to Texas where she grew up listening to all genres of music.

In the podcast we find out more about ‘Immigrant American Folk Music‘, its’s what genre best describes Pascali’s music. It’s a mix of a lot of different styles and cultures from all over the world and it’s a genre of music that is unique and exciting. We also get an exclusive listen to an unreleased track called “Colonist Tango” and one of my favourite tracks “Not Today“.

“Over The Sea” by Amanda Pascali.

Pascali started playing instruments in middle and high school to make pocket money and performed in cover bands. Once Pascali hit 17 she wanted to perform her own songs and get out there as a singer songwriter and so she released her self titled EP in 2016.

This was a transition from being in rock bands to being an authentic version of herself. as with every song that Pascali writes those songs were based on her own teenage experiences, very personal feelings got turned into broader themes so that the listener can mold the song to their lives.

Gianfranco Rosi the filmmaker inspired Pascali to write her song “Over The Sea” when she watched his documentary about African immigrants crossing the sea to reach Italy. Fans and family thought the song was written about them and their journey to the promised land.

Pascali’s way of writing her songs can be hard work and it’s a struggle to jump start her song writing songs. Artists borrow lots of things, and sometimes Pascali is not above to saying that she has been inspired by the best of world music. It took over a year to record her sophomore album “Still It Moves” in Texas. Pascali played the Electric Bass, Toy Piano, Piano and many more besides.

Pascali sees it as a privilege to travel, learn about different cultures and bring all of that into her writing and music. Listen to Pascali’s latest EP “The Messenger” to hear her fabulous music. Pascali will be playing her first ever UK show in London for the CloudwatcherUno Live Sessions on Thursday 13th July 2023. CloudwatcherUno Podcast S6 Ep 3 ~ Jeremy Pinnell

Jeremy Pinnell is a honky tonk musician of the highest order. Having released ‘OH/KY‘ in 2015 and then ‘Ties of Blood and Affection‘ in 2017, Jeremy brings out his third album ‘Goodbye LA‘ on October 1st 2021 from Sofaburn Records.

Killer tracks from that first album are ‘Sleep Song‘ and ‘Rodeo‘ from ‘OH/KY‘ which were already around for 15 years. Alternative County/Folk music was where Jeremy started but Country Music is where he is headed. While in Dayton, Kentucky Sofaburn Records and Jeremy came together to make sweet sweet music. Jeremy lived a wild kind of life back in the day and managed to record these experiences for this album. Jeremy is a connoisseur of hooks, he tries to add those big or small into everything he writes.

Between his first and second album Jeremy met a girl, had a son, got a steady job and got married and all this gratitude and contentment in his life is reflected in ‘Ties of Blood and Affection‘.

Zackary ‘EZ’ Nelson absolutely nailed it with the artwork for ‘Goodbye LA‘. Jeremy and the band worked hard for the last two years during the pandemic and can’t wait to show all his hard work so that people can hear the album. It’s an album that can make some fans uncomfortable as it progresses Jeremy’s sound in new directions.

The new album was recorded right under the wire in 2020. The time during the pandemic was used to getting the album mastered up to perfection. Jonathan Tyler as a producer was the right decision for Jeremy as he would make the whole experience of recording the songs and the album super exciting.

Big Ol Good‘ by Jeremy Pinnell

One of the most extraordinary songs on the new album is ‘Rosalie‘. It’s a story of a bar girl and a bar guy having a whole lotta fun. The album reflects the life of a troubadour whose living his life one song at a time.

Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee are many of the states that Jeremy and the band have been paying at post pandemic. Going foward Jeremy and the boys will be travelling across the states to showcase one helluva album.

CloudwatcherUno Podcast S3 Ep6 ~ Third Way

Xander Edwards and Paul Vilas are Third Way.

Third Way combine the best of synth pop and indie electronic music with an alternative spirituality in their sound. Their music is highly addictive, danceable and has mega melodramatic outpouring of emotion in their songs. They have been gigging for about a year at open mic evenings amongst the people and communicating their emotions and making the audience feel each and every track.

Paul and Xander from Third Way.

In this podcast host CloudwatcherUno sits down with Paul and Xander. Paul handles the synth and Xander handles all the vocals, combined they make dance floor heaven. They have played at The Finsbury in February 2020 (practically a club night), Cafe 1001 and Northcote records before the pandemic stopped them in their tracks. Everyone the musicians and the fans get to benefit on an atomic level from the sounds that emanate from the band.

In this podcast we get to hear two tracks, an acoustic version of their enormous hit ‘Guru’ and studio version of Tides. In 2020 they haven’t been able to be in the same physical space so they have concentrated on producing and evolving their music. ‘Tides’ was released just as the first lockdown came into force so they could only communicate remotely.

There’s a possibility of releasing a fun track called ‘Baby Jesus’ which was composed in a light hearted way but according to friends of the band is the best thing they have have ever produced. There is an originality and honesty to their music. Paul and Xander have been together for the last 7 years and as partners in music their relationship has blossomed. Having played together in previous bands such as ‘The Next De Niro,

‘Guru’ by Third Way

Music is a fabulous outlet for these two musicians and helps them to connect on a metaphysical level with themselves and making the best of an isolating situation where luckily they can make music from their home studio. There is a lot of positives on being able to concentrate just on their music and the result will be a release in the form of a new EP later in the year. Watch this space!

Paul and Xander from Third Way looking forward to their musical future.
